Currently there are two Bluetooth chip manufacturers: Broadcom and CSR. CSR used to lead the Bluetooth chip industry with its chips in the period of time of Bluetooth version 1.1. However Broadcom acquired Widcomm in 2005 when Bluetooth version 1.2 was becoming popular, which forced CSR to rely on IVT BlueSoleil.
Now there are five types of Bluetooth drivers: Apple Mac OS X, Widcomm, IVT BlueSoleil, Toshiba, among which, Widcomm and IVT BlueSoleil are the most widely used. Microsoft, the world’s biggest software company, has a certain market share due to its dominace in the Operating System industry.
The latest version of Widcomm is 5.1.0.3600, and the most-up-to-date version of Bluesoleil is v6.4.249.0. Widcomm is compatible with most Bluetooth chips and mobile phones, and is now the best Bluetooth driver on the market.
