Introduction to Android OS and Gphone


Android was developed by Google and the Open Handset Alliance which was released on 5 Nov, 2007 as an important open source software development platform and mobile Operating System, and Google unveiled its first Android mobile phone G1 on 22 Oct, 2008, which was also its first mobile phone.

The launch of G1 is a direct competition to Apple’s iPhone, it has a 3.2 inch large touch screen high-speed internet access and a QWERT keyboard which would allow the user to surf the internet. G1 has a built in 2 GB memory and can support up to 8 GB storage, it also includes Google’s online services like Gmail, YouTube video and Google’s instant messaging-GTalk.

According to a British media report Google was about to launch G2, and Android 2.0 will be released upon the completion of G2.

An Australian technology called Kogan Technologies was reported to launch a Android compatible handset on 29 Jan, 2009.
